Jersey's Commonwealth Games Triathlon Team Announced

The Jersey Triathlon Team for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games was announced on Monday 3 October. The team consists of Paul Clements, Scott Pitcher and Tim Rogers. Clements, who missed out on selection for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games has worked hard over the last four years to ensure this he is Melbourne bound. Clements will soon be travelling out to Australia to begin his period of warm-weather training in the run up to the Games. Clements will be based on Queenland's Gold Coast and will be joined in early January by Scott Pitcher. Pitcher, who was an outsider for selection, improved immensely over the summer of 2005 to become Jersey's most improved triathlete and gained selection a the Michelob Ultra London Triathlon with a lifetime best performance. The team is completed by Tim Rogers, who has had an excellent season, including medalling at the National Age-Group Triathlon Championships. Rogers is about to compete in the Triathlon Age-Group World Championships in Hawaii, where a top 10 finish is a definite possibility. The team manager is Jersey Triathlon Club President Gary Jones, who will be attending his second Commonwealth Games.

The Jersey Triathlon Club is providing financial support to each of the triathletes to help them with their preparations. The Jersey Triathlon Club is particularly grateful to Royal Bank of Scotland International for their support. In addition, the team competition uniform has been provided by the specialist triathlon clothing company Orca.
