and Stuart Hayes who will be representing England in Melbourne.

Pitcher who was recovering from injury, put in a solid swim which
bodes well for Melbourne. The bike leg was extremely tough, with
eight 5km loops, including a sharp climb. After the run, Pitcher had
placed 33rd in the elite field. Pitcher said "This was my first race
of the season and was extremely similar in the way it turned out to my
first race last year at Zundert - and I went to have a great season! I
learn't a few lessons and glad I raced. I have 2 weeks before the Luke
Harrop Memorial Sprint Triathlon and then 2 weeks to the Commonwealth
Games. Time is flying. This week will be a build week and then 2 solid
weeks training before a taper week and the big day!

The race was won by Australian Commonwealth Games triathlete, Brad
Kahlefeldt. Paul Clements, who was scheduled to compete was unable to
race due to illness.

Gary Jones, Jersey Triathlon Team Manager, said 'Sunday's was
invaluable preparation for Scott. Scott has now rubbed shoulders with
the world's best, and now knows what it will be like on 18 March, when
they race against the Commonwealth's best triathletes.'

Rogers who will be competing in his first Commonwealth Games was on a training run, when he was involved in an incident with a dog. Rogers continued with his run, and it was only when he got home realised that something wrong. Further investigation showed that Rogers has a fracture above the wrist and bruising to the elbow which will take approximately 4 - 6 weeks to heal. Rogers who is a quick healer, had a similar problem in 2001 when competing in the World Duathlon Championship, then made a rapid recovery and raced successfully.

Rogers said 'I am disappointed with a set-back at this time, but I've done the mileage, and have been achieving the speed. With the right physio, and by training on my turbo as well as running I should be able to minimize the impact.'
Commonwealth Games Triathlon Team Manager, Gary Jones, said 'Tim is a highly committed and determined triathlete who has overcome setbacks in the past. We will be reviewing the implications of the injury with Jersey's Commonwealth Games Association Officers and Medical Team in the next few days.'

In another incident at the weekend, Scott Pitcher was involved in an cycling accident in Australia whilst racing and has had 18 stitches inserted into cuts. Pitcher is expected to make a full recovery in a week, and will be racing this weekend in Hobart, Tasmania.
